FACE FENCE USER GUIDE

Product Overview

FaceFence™180 emits short beeps and red flash when another wearer approaches closer than approximately six feet from the front. The device is worn on a lanyard or chain around the neck.

FaceFence360 achieves front and back coverage when two devices are worn, one in front and one in back, as shown below on both sides of a lanyard.

Typical approximate activation areas indoors for FaceFence180 and FaceFence360 are depicted in Figure 2a and 2b respectively. Activation area automatically increases in confined spaces up to 20% to increase warning distance when avoiding others becomes more difficult.

The typical approximate activation areas shown in Figures 2a and 2b depict FaceFence’s response when one wearer of the device walks directly towards another wearer of the device from the angles shown. When two people wearing the device pass each other walking in exactly opposite directions, the activation ranges will typically be 20-30% less than those shown in Figures 2a and 2b.

Depending on the relative orientation of FaceFence devices on two people approaching each other, the device on one wearer may signal activation before the device on the other wearer activates. In most environments, the sound from a single device can be heard from over 6 feet away, so that the activation of only one device will serve to notify both users that social distance limits have been breeched.

Devices perform normally outdoors in shade or at night, bu activation ranges decrease in strong sunlight.

FaceFence™ can also be fixed to the front and back of belt a hat or hardhat to achieve front-back coverage

Charging Battery

Remove the wrapping and plug in the micro USB charging, as shown below, then connect the USB to a  5 Volt USB power source, such as computer or charging supply.

The LED indicator should be blue, indicating that the battery is less than fully charged. After approximately 10-15 minutes, the blue indicator should turn green, indicating a full charge. During use, if the LED turns red and a tone of decreasing pitch sounds from the speaker, the battery is low and requires recharging. The first indication of a low battery is a rapidly flashing red light and low battery acoustic signal. These signals will repeat periodically for 5 minutes, then the units will automatically shut off to prevent unreliable operation. After automatic shutoff, turn the switch to “OFF”, and fully re-charge before using again.

Make sure the power switch is in the “OFF” position (switch slid all the way towards bottom of device, as shown here in Figure 4).

Wear of the Device

Figure 5: Device on lanyard and device on badge

The device should be worn at the mid-line of the body, attached to a chain, lanyard or clipped to a badge, as shown in Figure 5.

Figure 6: Opening Clips

The clips on the back of the device are strongly spring-loaded to help keep the units firmly attached, and so may require use of a stiff, flat surface, such as credit card, to open before attaching to clothing, a badge of other item, as shown here in Figure 6.

FaceFence works best when the height at which it is worn varies less than 2 feet among different users. Thus, tall users should wear the device hanging as low as possible on their torso, while users of short stature will get best results by elevating the device near the base of the throat, as shown below in Figures 7, 8, and 9, by adjusting the elastic lanyard crimp provided with each lanyard.

Figure 10 shows how to wear the devices in the FaceFence™ 360 configuration.

Operating the Device

When you slide the ON-OFF switch to the up position, the red light flashes once and a musical turn-on sequence will play. A different, shorter sound sequence plays if another device is within its activation zone. The proximity alert will also flash RED when activated.

FaceFence will emit sounds and flash RED at an increasing rate the closer another wearer gets within the approximate activation zones shown in Figure 2.

Outdoors in the daytime, the activation zone reduces several feet, depending upon the light level, but at night alerts in the same activation zone as indoors. FaceFence will not work and may “false alarm” when its front is pointed directly at the sun

With normal use, the device should operate without re-charging for approximately 10 hours. Slide the power switch to OFF when not in use. However, frequent activation of the device drains the battery and will therefore reduce battery life below 10 hours.
